meaning the guy i SHOULD have been dreaming of was my boyfriend. the one i WAS dreaming of....thats completely not my boyfriend.

It depends on if you mean, the guy you were dreaming of was your boyfriend and you should not be dreaming of him
Or if you mean that you were dreaming of someone else and you should be dreaming of your boyfriend.
Because I think the former is fine. The latter... well... I'd have to hit you in the face and ask if you were alright.
